Artists Way
As shared by Lauren Willington
The Artists Way by Julia Cameron is the form of journaling I do. Chat GPT (who I refer to affectionately at Her Maj) has summarised it for us!
Julia Cameron, best known for The Artist’s Way, teaches a stream of consciousness journaling practice called Morning Pages.
Here’s a brief summary of the process:
When: Do it first thing in the morning, before distractions set in.
What: Write three full pages, longhand (not typed).
How: Write continuously without censoring, editing, or worrying about grammar, style, or content. Let your thoughts flow exactly as they come.
Purpose: It’s not meant to be art, journaling for posterity, or even “good writing.” Instead, it’s a tool to clear mental clutter, quiet the inner critic, and access deeper creativity.
Effect: Over time, Morning Pages help uncover hidden thoughts, reduce mental noise, and create space for creative insights.
And you can have fun choosing fancy notebooks to write in too. Even make it a ritual: make a nice coffee and light a scented candle. In summer I often walk up to the Heath and sit on a bench in the trees and journal.
